Team India Captain MS.Dhoni opined that, master blaster Sachin Tendulkar is the right person who deserves Bharata Ratna award. He said “Sachin who was honored with Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna, Arjun Award, Padma Vibhushan, Padma Sri and several other awards quite naturally would be the front runner for this prestigious award. Even in those remote areas of our country who have any idea about cricket certainly mentions Sachin Tendulkar ‘s name with it. This is enough to know how popular he is and how much loved by the people of the country.”
“More over, his 21 years of service to cricket and still many more years to go with it, certainly needs an appreciation like Bharata Ratna award. Sachin Tendulkar’s social service activities are another thing that needs a separate mention. His dedication, achievements in cricket and his services to society around him, places him high above the others in the country. Hence, the Centre should consider announcing Bharata Ratna award to Sachin Tendulkar with out any further delay. I think this is the right time to announce such award for such a great player.

Very few directors of Indian origin have been able to make a mark for themselves in Hollywood and probably one of the most prominent among them is director Manoj Night Shyamalan.
M.Night Shyamalan, as he is known as in Hollywood, is the person responsible for giving us the shivers through his films like The Sixth Sense, Unbreakable, Signs and The Village.
The Indian born director who has been living in the U.S. for a long time is now all set to make a visit to his motherland after nearly a decade. And the reason for his making a visit to India is two-fold.
First and foremost the director, who has won many international awards for his work is set to receive the prestigious Padma Shri Award from the President of India. For the uninitiated, the Padma Shri is one of India's highest civilian awards after the Bharat Ratna, the Padma Vibhushan and the Padma Bhushan.
Another reason that has probably got the incredibly gifted director back to his birth-land after a hiatus is the release of his forthcoming film The Happening. The Happening is a supernatural thriller which stars Mark Wahlberg and is co-produced by Twentieth Century Fox along with UTV Motion Pictures.
We spoke to Siddharth Roy Kapoor, CEO- UTV Motion Pictures to get some more details on Night's visit to India. "Yeah, we are eagerly looking forward to M Night Shyamalan coming here to India. He would be arriving in the first week of May and would be in Mumbai for a couple of days. Post that he moves to Delhi to receive the prestigious Padma Shri." says Siddharth.
Considering Night Shyamalan's films have a huge fan following in India are there any special plans in store to promote the movie? "Yes, we will be giving an opportunity for the media to interact with him considering he hasn't come to India in a while. Other than that also we are planning some promotional activities for our film The Happening which releases worldwide on June 13th. It's quite apt that this supernatural film opens on Friday the 13th", says Siddharth with a smile.
And finally, how was the experience working with an internationally acclaimed director like Night Shyamalan, "It's been a very good experience. He is a very planned-out, methodical director who knows exactly what he wants to do and it was great working with him" signs off Siddharth Roy Kapoor.
2014/2/4 9:47:05 New Delhi: Legendary cricketer Sachin Tendulkar and eminent scientist Prof CNR Rao were on Tuesday conferred with the country`s highest civilian honour Bharat Ratna by President Pranab Mukherjee at a function held at the `Durbar Hall` of Rashtrapati Bahavan.
Master batsman Tendulkar, who retired from international cricket on November 16 last year, is the first sportsman to be bestowed with the honour.
Tendulkar (40) and Rao (79), both of whom are recipients of Padma Vibhushan -- the country`s second highest civilian honour, join a list of 41 eminent personalities who have been conferred with the award that is given in recognition of exceptional service of the highest order since it was instituted in 1954.
In a fitting finale to a record-breaking career spanning 24 years, Tendulkar, a former India Captain, was chosen for the prestigious award, after his farewell 200th Test against the West Indies in Mumbai on November 16, 2013.
An official statement had said Tendulkar has been a true Ambassador of India in the world of sports and his achievements in cricket are unparallelled, the records set by him unmatched, and the spirit of sportsmanship displayed by him exemplary.
"That he has been honoured with several awards is testimony to his extraordinary brilliance as a sportsman," it said, noting that Tendulkar has played cricket across the world and won laurels for the country during the last 24 years since a young age of 16.
An outspoken scientist, Prof Chintamani Nagesa Ramachandra Rao is a well recognized international authority on solid state and materials chemistry who has published over 1,400 research papers and 45 books. He is the third scientist after C V Raman and former President A P J Abdul Kalam to be conferred with the Bharat Ratna.
Prof Rao`s contributions have been recognized by most major scientific academies around the world through conferment of memberships and fellowships and has been honoured with several national and international awards, the official announcement said.
He currently serves as the Head of the Scientific Advisory Council to the Prime Minister of India. There have been continuous demands for a long time for Tendulkar to be conferred the top honour and the eligibility criteria for it was revised last year to accommodate sportspersons as well.
Tendulkar is also the first active sportsperson to become a Rajya Sabha member last year. The Bharat Ratna was announced after a gap of four years with Hindustani music doyen Bhimsen Joshi being the last recipient in 2009.
Incidently, Union Home Ministry has came out with guidelines about Bharat Ratna saying the award cannot be used as a prefix or suffix to the recipient`s name under the Constitution.
However, the award winner can use mention as `Awarded Bharat Ratna by the President` or `Recipient of Bharat Ratna Award` in their bio-datas, letter head or visiting cards.
The recipient receives a Sanad (certificate) signed by the President and a medallion. It does not carry any monetary grant.
